Ekiti drivers withdraw services, allege witch-hunt by APC

Commercial drivers in Ekiti state on Monday said they would not work on Tuesday alleging that they are being victimized by the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Clement Adeko said they are withdrawing their services on Tuesday to avoid bloodshed.

A mega rally to be attended by President Muhammadu Buhari is being planned by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi in Ado Ekiti Tuesday (today).

Adekola said he and other leaders of driver unions in Ekiti had come under serious threats for supporting the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

“I have been receiving strange calls and even told that thugs from Ondo State have been hired to attack our members and perceived supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

“We decided to withdraw our services from the roads so that they won’t carry out their threats tomorrow (Tuesday).

“We initially thought of parking our vehicles in our houses but we are not save. So, we decided to run to government house for protection.”

Adekola said the Commissioner of Police, Bello Ahmed, and the state Director of Department of State Services, Mrs Promise Iheanacho, did not respond to their petitions, hence they ran to the governor.

The chairman of Pickup and Lorry drivers Association of Nigeria, Atowoju Adekunle, said no intimidation or harassment would change their minds from voting PDP.

“We may have to withdraw our services until our security is guaranteed. APC should not boil this state.”
